Victorian 18KY gold, carved agate and seed pearl locket pendant

Description : The carving on this banded agate is some of the finest we have ever seen. The undulation of cut and banding, produces the most interesting design results. Affixed to an 18KY gold locket/pendant, the agate shows graduated seed pearls formed in a star pattern that are inlaid within a metal framework into the surface of the stone. When you open the locket, inside is a hand colored photograph of a distinguished gentleman. This piece of jewelry is a true heirloom treasure, and is most likely a mourning piece in honor of the man depicted in the image. Set in solid 18KY gold, every detail is thoughtful and well crafted. Produced around 1880, this locket is over 100 years old, and in pristine condition. It measures approximately 45mm long and 38mm wide.
