Art Nouveau Brass with gold wash and Pyrite pin

Description : In coinage left or right facing portraits are common, but not as much in jewelry. This left facing portrait of a woman was fabricated in approximately 1830, and shows a woman with a rose. The process of creating this image is repousse, where flat sheet metal is hammered from the back to create a relief image on the front. This portrait is highly detailed on both the front and the back of this pin. Marcasite is actually faceted pyrite, and there are sparkling accents all around this modest but really charming 30mm round pin. A small but lovely treasure.
